Erik D'Ercole

Backend web developer · Co-founder of Encodia

Hi! I'm Erik D'Ercole, 46 years old, a web developer (mainly backend) with over 20 years of experience. I live and work in Liguria, Italy, just a few steps from the sea.

I'm a partner and co-founder of Encodia, a web agency based in Arma di Taggia (IM) that builds web applications and sites, Artificial Intelligence-based solutions, e-commerce, hosting, SEO/SEM, social media and ADS.

Some of the topics I'm passionate about and work on every day:

  • PHP
  • Laravel
  • JavaScript
  • Rust
  • OOP
  • TDD
  • DDD
  • Design pattern
  • Linux & server
  • DevOps
  • AWS & cloud
  • Docker
  • Security
  • AI
  • Performance

I started tinkering as a kid with the Basic language, MS-DOS, Windows 3.1 and a PC whose hardware would look ridiculous today next to any smartphone. Over the years I used Visual Basic, Turbo-Pascal, Delphi, C and more, before discovering HTML and the world of the web around the age of 16-17.

I like to keep up to date and experiment with technologies, languages and products — without chasing or using the latest trends at all costs.

In I earned a bachelor's degree in Computer Science with full marks and honors (110/110 cum laude) from the University of Turin. University education and a mathematical-scientific background matter a lot, but I firmly believe that in the IT world the skills acquired in the field count far more: self-learning, passion for the subject and the hours spent learning, failing and improving.

Among my passions, music comes first: I'm a former musician (piano, organ, electric guitar, clarinet), and Spotify is playing on one device or another from dawn till dusk. Below you can see what I'm listening to or have listened to recently.

In my free time I love reading — both novels and technical books — and traveling.
